Deployment Thoughts

Written 11/10/11

I am blessed to have made real friends within the Army community whom I am not losing as a result of losing my status as an "Army wife". I see them living their lives sin their husbands, and my heart aches for them. I have come to the conclusion that deployment is a cruel and unusual assignment, for anyone, and a nearly impossible one for couples. To be forced apart, for a year, with one visit - if that - and sporadic phone calls, emails, Skypes, and letters. Additionally, for one partner to go through an experience so incomprehensible to anyone who has not been through it themselves - I can't think of anything more trying to a marriage. Horrible things happen to many people, but this is something each person must go through relatively alone. The wife supports her soldier, and the soldier loves his wife, and the wives support each other... Its no wonder whatsoever that the community is so tight-knit.
