Army Wife as an Occupation (Or Not...)

It seems that many women have tailored their lives to fit their husband's career. Or perhaps they have been blessed with a fit of their dreams and their husband's career. That woman is not me! My dreams have, in all honesty, not even included a husband (until I became involved with mine!), not to mention settling down, managing a home, or being a housewife.

I want to be a foster mom (that's the closest thing that was in my plans lol), I want to work with a wilderness therapy program (www.redcliffascent.com), I want to travel the world like my friend Shae is doing now, I want to live in a bus and drive cross-country (Jack Kerouac, anyone?) and bellydance for gas money, maybe do some modeling and bit acting as an extra, I want to learn a trade - I want to do so many things! I want to have a career, several in fact, and none of them are set up to be easily transportable. Am I supposed to give up those things for my marriage? I think, ideally, not. The tricky part is reconciling my wishes and potential plans with a committed relationship, in addition a relationship that is not completely under our control (due to the Army).

It will be quite the feat to meld my independent nature and unique plans/dreams with the orders of the Army, as well as my husband! The Army will not always be an issue. My husband, on the other hand, will forever be in my life. <3 This should be interesting...
